    Description
Playing, shooting, flicking marbles – these are all names for the same game – a game children have been playing with enthusiasm in different versions for many centuries in almost every country in the world. We have written down for you the most important rules of the game you can play and we are absolutely convinced that you too will have lots of fun with the colourful glass or clay marbles.

    Shooting goals
First, dig a hole with a diameter of about 5 cm or place the marble dish on the floor. Place wooden sticks in the ground to the left and right of the hole at a distance of 5 cm to the edge of the hole (or place building blocks in those positions). Players throw from a distance of 5 metres and each player has one throw per round. If he hits the hole or the dish he gets five points. If he hits the goal – between the sticks or the building blocks but not in the hole – he gets one point. If he misses the goal he gets no points at all. The player with the most points after five rounds is given one marble by each of the other players.

    Hit the hole
Dig a hole in the ground with the heel of your shoe. Firm up the edge by hand so the marbles will roll in easily later. If you want to play in your room. Then the marble dish acts as the hole. At a distance of three metres, each player in turn throws one to three marbles (you have to decide how many in advance) and tries to get them right in the hole or the dish. The order of play is decided on the marbles thrown. Whoever gets his marble nearest to the hole or even in the hole is the first to start with the "pushing" or "flicking". If two marbles land at the same distance from the hole or both fall into the hole, the players must throw again to decide who goes first. Pushing is done with the broad side of your index finger. You must just push the marble, not actually guide it. The player who starts the pushing chooses any marble and tries to roll it with one shot into the hole or the marble dish. If he succeeds, he can try the same thing with the next marble and so on until he makes a mistake and misses the target. Then it’s the second player’s turn. The winner is the player who gets the last marble into the hole. He can keep all the marbles and a new round is started.

    Line game
A line is drawn on the floor or a string is laid out and a second line parallel to it about 1–2 m away. Each player in turn throws a marble towards the line, trying to get as near as possible to it or even to hit it with the marble. Whoever places his marble right beside or on the line collects up all the marbles the other players have thrown. If several players position their marbles at the same distance from the line, the game continues until a clear result is achieved.

    Trenches
Each player gives the first player two to four marbles (as agreed in advance) which he then tries to throw all together in one throw into a hole or a marble dish two metres away. The ones that go in are counted. Then the second player takes the marbles and tries his luck. The player who has got the most marbles into the hole after one round keeps all the marbles. If two or more players have the same number of hits there has to be a play-off.

    Targeting
One player throws a big marble onto the floor. Each player in turn throws a marble from a 5 m distance to try to hit the big marble. Whoever hits the big marble is given a small marble by every other player as a prize. If nobody hits the big marble in the first round, each player takes one step nearer to the big target marble to try for the second round. If nobody hits the big marble in the second round, the game starts from the beginning again.
