The lead of a pencil is actually made of graphite and clay, and not at all of lead. Stabilo uses a layer of beeswax instead of varnish. This natural protection, which is also used in the food industry, closes off the pores in the wood and protects - in a simple and effective way - against dirt and bacteria. Also, the “lead” does not even extend to the end of the pencil, which cannot be used for writing anyway. In this way we prevent the useless loss of valuable raw materials such as graphite. And a nice extra for all those who chew their pencil: the tongue no longer gets dirty color.
