These 100% natural & plastic-free scouring pads/sponges are completely biodegradable and packed with Zero Waste.
The raw material for this plastic-free scouring pad is Stipa Tenacissima. This sturdy grass is native to southern Europe and does not require pesticides. It is hand-picked with respect for the ecosystem. The roots simply remain in place and the plant continues to grow slowly. Then the picked blades are washed in water, dried and bleached in the sun. Later they are processed into bales.
The sponges are transported by land, no cargo ship is involved. No dragging with polluting raw materials and no chemicals are used during the production process. The family business that produces these traditional scouring pads proudly carries the ISO 14001 eco-label. These types of scouring pads have been used in southern Europe for centuries. And why not?
